Shire Description
The Shire is one of the largest horses in the world and is a proud representative of English strength. They are very impressive and wonderous for their traits of strength, constitution, energy, and endurance. They are very well disciplined. In medieval times, the Shire was greatly coveted as a warhorse, due to its steady disposition, courage and loyalty. Also, Shires played an extremely important role in pre-industrial society, serving as a main source of transportation and agricultural labor. Despite their size, they are known to have a very docile nature. They are kind, gentle and love to please. Their average life span is 15 to 22 years. They have very muscular bodies, with long, feathered legs. Their heads are large and proporionate to their massive figure. Their coloring is mostly black with white markings on the face and feet.
