The Hucul
is also known as the Carpathian Pony and native to the
Carpathian Mountains in what is now Romania. They are
a unique breed, with only about 500 breeding mares in
the world. Their main traits of friendliness, great
stamina and endurance, make them an excellent breed.
They are often used to carry loads in the forests, as
pack animals, or as riding horses in the mountains.
They are solidly built and well muscled, with slightly
sloped shoulders and well formed flanks. Its withers
are pronounced and its back is straight and long. Its
head is well-proportioned with a full forelock, small
eyes and small ears. The neck is muscular. The Hucul
can be seen in common coat colors including bay, palomino,
dun and gray.
