The Falabella
is the smallest and the rarest breeds of horses in the
world. It originated in Argentina. It is not strong
enough to ride, but it is intelligent and friendly,
making it an ideal pet. It is a hardy animal and can
sometimes be used in a harness. They are capable of
jumping. Their appearance is similar to Arabian and
Morgan horses. It shares the beauty, character, and
poise of the larger breeds in a very diminutive package.
It has a dominant dwarfism gene, meaning that even mixed
with larger breeds, its offspring is likely to be very
small. The Falabella has only seventeen vertebrae, rather
than the usual eighteen, and it is missing one pair
of ribs.
