Eriskay Pony Description
The Eriskay is the only type of Hebridean pony that is still in existence. This extrememly rare pony is an intelligent, trainable, versatile animal that is a wonderful pony for the entire family. It is also a great work animal on the farm, able to perform tasks such as ploughing and carring various objects on their backs. The Eriskay pony is born black, but as it reaches maturity, they will turn either gray or white. In the winter, they grow a thick coat to protect them from the elements. Although it is small, the Eriskay is a hardy animal. It is considered an endangered native pony and measures are being taken to ensure it doesn't vanish.
