The Ardennais
is one of the oldest breeds in the world. It is a docile
and hardworking animal. It is used in Northern France
for heavy agricultural work and bred for meat. It is
a large, heavily boned and well-muscled animal. It has
a straight head with a low forehead and prominent eyes.
The Ardennais is a compact horse with a short, wide
bake. The legs are very large and coated with heavy
feathers. They are bay, roan, chestnut, gray, and palomino
in color. Black is possible, but very rare and cannot
be registered.
