The American
Saddlebred is an intelligent, fun, friendly horse that
is primarily a show horse. It has an elegant gait and
is comfortable to ride. The American Saddlebred has
an elevated action when walking, trotting, or cantering.
Its long hooves are usually shod with heavy, padded
shoes. The legs are long and light and it neck is high.
Its tail is usually set high, often by cutting the ligaments
at the root of the tail. This practice is going out
of style and more owners and trainers are using false
hair to achieve the affect. All coat colors are possible.
Its life span ranges from the late 20s to early 30s.
