there are three varieties, each with three different sizes. Normal size is 14-18 inches. Miniature is up to 14 inches and the toy is up to 12 inches.
Weight:
normal is 20 lbs. Miniature is 9 lbs. and tooy is 8 lbs.
Color:
solid colored may be tan or yellow. Bi-color may be deep black, brown, or gray with areas of bright chestnut. There are also speckle-streaked, or harlequin varieties.

Dachshund Description
  There are three varieties of Dachshund. They are the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long haired. With each of these varieties, there are three sizes. The Dachshund is a muscular, vigorous, and elongated dog with short legs. It has an intelligent expression and carries itself proudly. The head is elongated and the skull a slight convex. The eyebrows are arched and protruding. The muzzle is long and the jaws robust with non-pendent lips. The eyes are oval, dark red or brown-black with a friendly and energetic expression. Its ears are mobile and hang long on its cheeks. It has a moderately retracted abdomen and a strong protruding sternum. It carries its tail in line with its back.
