The Black
and Tan Coonhound is a powerful, large working hound.
It has a finely modeled head and is very well-proportioned.
The length of the body from the wither to rump is the
same or a little longer than the height at the withers.
Its back is fairly level and chest reaches down to the
elbows. It can cover a lot of ground with its long,
rhythmic strides. The upper plane of skull is approximately
parallel to the upper plane of the muzzle. The pendant
lips are well developed and it has wide black nostrils.
The ears are long and pendant and fall in graceful folds.
Its tail is strong and carried freely. Its eyes are
rounded and hazel to dark brown in color. Its coat is
short and sleek and the graceful droop of loosely fitting
skin and extensive ear leather give the Black and Tan
a distinctive quality.
