Basenji Description
Basenji are small, athletic dogs that are about the size of a fox terrier. Its coat is smooth and shiny. Its back is level and legs are long with muscular thighs. Its forehead is furrowed with wrinkles, giving it a worried look. The skull is flat and its eyes are small and almond shaped. The ears are straight and open in the front and its tail is set high and curls up over and slightly to either side of the back. The Basenji has a destinctive, horse-like running gait. It also does not bark, but makes lots of other unusual sounds. Depending on its mood, it may yodel, howl, growl, or crow. Unlike othe domestic breeds which have two heats a year, the female Basenji comes into heat only once a year.
